A Guru or teacher helps us understand the deeper meanings of life and brings closer to God.
Guru Purnima marks the birthday of one of the most respected Gurus in Indian history, Ved Vyasa. Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima in owner of Ved Vyasa. He compiled the Vedas and wrote the Mahabharata and Puranas,thus spreading great knowledge through his work.
The story of Guru Purnima tells us about the birth of Ved Vyasa. Once upon a time, there was a sage named Parashara. He was a great scholar and a wise man who spent much of his time studying and teaching others about the Vedas, Scriptures filled with knowledge and wisdom.
one day ,Sage Parashara was travelling near a river called Yamuna. He wanted to cross the river. He saw a women named Satyavati, sitting beside a boat on the river bank. Satyavati was the daughter of a fisherman; she was very kind and intelligent.
Sage Parashara was very impressed by Satyavati's qualities. He knew their child would have great wisdom and knowledge. with her permission, sage parashara married Satyavati. she gave birth to a baby boy. This child was not an ordinary boy, he was born with great qualities. Sages Parashara named him Krishna Dvaipayana. as Krishna Dvaipayana grew older, he became known as Ved Vyasa. Ved Vyasa grew up to be a wise and learned sages, just like his father. He dedicated his life to studying and preserving the timeless wisdom of the Vedas. He divided the Vedas into four parts ; Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, and Atharvaveda- to make them easier for people to understand and follow.
Ved Vyasa taught many disciples and spread knowledge among ordinary people. his teaching and writings inspire people to respect wisdom seek learning, and share knowledge with others
On Guru Purnima, we honour teachers like Ved Vyasa who have made a significant a contribution to educating people.
